Life's Kitchen

Nourishing New Beginnings

Mayor Dave Bieter pays a visit to Life's Kitchen
Mission: Life's Kitchen is dedicated to transforming the lives of at-risk young adults by building self sufficiency and independence through comprehensive food service and life skills training, and placement in the food service industry.

Vision: To transform our community and provide a sense of belonging, enrichment and hope, and create a place where young adults, 16-20 years of age, will:
  • Develop skills to enhance their self worth and realize their full potential.
  • Access the educational resources, tools and opportunities necessary to thrive and live independently.
  • Receive job and life skills training in the food services industry to foster self sufficiency.
What We Provide: Employability and independent living skills, an opportunity for continuing education, and a second chance to become productive, contributing members of society.

In The Kitchen: Life's Kitchen provides a rolling-enrollment, 16-week job training program that teaches students the basic skills necessary for entry-level jobs in the food service industry. We operate three training businesses -- contract food, catering and a cafe -- to provide hands-on training for our students.

By using Life's Kitchen’s services, you get fantastic food, give back to the community and help teach our motivated students that success is only a hard day's work away.

In The Classroom: Our instructors deliver the needed life skills that many take for granted, including financial literacy, debt reduction, personal health, conflict management and positive relationship building.

At Life's Kitchen, we also feel that no matter how well our students perform, or how well our program is delivered, without an education our students will always be at a disadvantage. To that end, we offer transferable high school credit through Borah High School and the Boise School District. We strive to help students attain their GED or  high school diploma and help with their college enrollment.

How We're Funded: Life's Kitchen raises roughly half of our budget through proceeds from our three training businesses -- contract food, catering and cafe. The remainder is raised through traditional non-profit avenues such as grants, foundations, special events and investments from motivated individuals who care about the community in which they live.
